James Horstkamp

As the President and Founder of Energy Select, James Horstkamp has guided the company's mission since starting it as a one-person operation in 2002. His vision has always been to address the energy equation from both sides: thoughtful conservation and clean, renewable production. James's leadership is informed by his education, including a B.S. in Business from the University of Maryland and an MBA from Manchester University, England. His dynamic international career included serving as an Associate Professor of International Finance and later as the European Continental Director for a Nasdaq 100 technology company. This business acumen is paired with a practical understanding of the work, as he also holds certifications as a licensed electrician and a Building Analyst.

Today, James leads the management team in its mission to grow the business, its services, and its people. He is driven by a pragmatic philosophy: that while today’s tools may not solve all our environmental issues, they can buy us crucial time. He believes clean resources like solar allow for the technological innovation needed to heal our planet, and that ""the current and best answer today is in the sky right in front of us.""

This commitment extends beyond the business. James also heads and operates Energy Impact, a non-profit foundation where 100% of the overhead is funded by Energy Select. The foundation uses alternative energy to provide basic necessities like food, water, and shelter to those in need around the world. An active outdoorsman, James loves to fish, camp, and canoe, reinforcing his personal connection to the natural environment he works to protect.
